We bought a boat! Woah! I came home from girls camp and told Brandon that we needed to start making memories with our family at a cabin, on a boat, etc. and we have talked in circles about a lot of different options. I told him I didn't care what he bought as long as he did something. It only took a few days and he came home with a boat!
We took the Murray's out with us on our first boat trip and the kids all had a blast! They were all brave and tried a boat toy. Our kids have made goals for the summer and will hopefully try something that pushes them out of their comfort zones a bit. This whole boat thing has pushed me out of my comfort zone for sure! I am nervous to drive the boat and the truck/trailer, but docking the boat is a two person job, so I have to figure this out quickly! Hopefully I will get better at driving the boat onto the trailer by the end of the summer.
So we decided to take the boat to Bear Lake. On the first day, it was too windy to boat - we took it out there, but it was so miserable and we were all getting sprayed and were hiding in towels. So we went to see Little Mermaid at Pickleville and the kids loved it - except for Carson who wasn't feeling well and spiked a small fever.
On the next day, we went on the boat in the morning and swam at Ideal Beach's swimming pool in the afternoon and played on the beach. On the boat, we made sure to blast Old Town Road more than a couple times!
On Sunday, we drove to Bloomington Lake (but it doesn't open til July 1), so we went to Paris ice cave. It was very cool and the change in temperature was amazing. We also played mini golf, tennis and baseball all at Ideal Beach. Carson is obsessed with Lion King, so he watched lots of tid bits of that show all weekend!
We ate at Merlin's (good), Firehouse (get takehouse, service is not good), Cafe Sabor (fine) and LaBeau's for their raspberry shakes (good) and compared them to Hometown shakes (good too). We ran into the Balser's from our neighborhood, which was fun!
Bear Lake & Ideal Beach was great! However, it was SO hot inside without air conditioning! I had to try hard not to complain when it was 80+ degrees inside when we were going to bed.
For next time: the grocery store (not ideal beach) up there was actually priced pretty fair, we need better sunscreen and floaty toys for the shore, we need to bring a dvd player or hdmi cord to watch shows, cook from home - the restaurants are just ok. We are excited to try it again next year!
