We had quite the turn of events last week with Rachel. I'll try to keep it to the short and simple version, rather than share with you every detail of her medical history. Rachel came down with a high fever - I took her to our pediatrician's office on day 1 to make sure it wasn't her ears, and it wasn't, so they told me to come back on day 4 if she still had a fever. We took her in again and they couldn't determine what was wrong, so they told me that if she still had a fever by day 5 that I should take her to Children's Memorial Hospital. We spent the entire afternoon in the ER and she had her blood drawn and a catheter (not our idea of great fun exactly). Then they let us know that she had a urinary tract infection (poor thing!) and told us that they wanted her to stay in the hospital overnight. The antibiotics are taking care of the UTI very nicely and we luckily only had to stay in the hospital for 24 hours. We'll have a follow up visit with the urologist next week to make sure everything is going good. Rachel seems back to her normal, happy self.Pictured above: Rachel with her IV - tears and all :(
Daddy's always good for some comic relief. She had this spaceship-cage-crib and daddy got in there with her for a quick picture.
The arm cover is so they don't pull at the IV. A bit bulky for nighttime, but we tried to keep our complaints to a minimum.
Later in the week, she had to get a test done and had to be strapped down like this for 1 hour and 45 minutes - yikes! Luckily, she fell asleep for the first 45 minutes and then we watched Baby Einstein for the rest (in the picture, the DVD screen is above the machine and she is holding my little purse calendar, which has a kitty on it). She was SO good compared to how I imagined it going.

I know she's OK, but I also know that you must have been a worried, nervous wreck all week long. Stuff like this always makes me grateful for modern medicine!
Poor kid! I was in the hospital at about her age because I had a nasty intestinal virus. My parents still pull out the pictures of me in the cage-crib. You'll love those pictures when she's older. Hope that life gets back to normal soon!
Oh, that is so hard when they are sick! I can't believe she was so good for 1 hour and 45 minutes strapped down like that! I am glad she is doing better!
Poor Rachel! Glad she's feeling better now. Does her kidney thing put her at higher risk for UTI's? I think I'll be a wreck the first time Owen has a hospital visit.
So sad. What a trooper little Rachie is. What a trooper you are to have to sit and watch. Boo hoo.
Poor girl. That last picture is great. It is so sweet. She's such a trooper.
Glad to hear that she is going to be fine. Aren't kids being sick just the worst? Hope you are hanging in there.
Oh...what a whirlwind trip to the ER! I'm so glad she slept while she was strapped onto that thing. I'm pretty sure Jack would have gone crazy. And can you believe she is standing? She and Jack are right on track with each other. It seems incredibly early, but it could just be that Simon was soooo late with everything. She is a doll and you and Brandon are...I know it is clique...but you are cute parents. Way to handle all the stress so well. I admire you in so many ways.
Oh wow, what an ordeal! I would have been a nervous wreck. I'm so glad it's all over and that it went better then expected. Hope she feels all better soon!
I am glad she is doing better.
So sorry to hear about Rachel being sick. She is getting so big and is so cute. Miss you guys!
I'm so sorry! There is nothing more stressful as a mom than a sick baby. Glad the antibiotics are working and that you guys are home. I'm amazed at what a good girl Rachel was during that test-thank goodness for Baby Einstein! :)
That sounds awful! I'm glad she's doing better.
Hey Whit! So sorry to hear you were in the hospital with her recently. I'm glad to hear she's doing better now though!
I feel for you! This happened to my little Reagan when she was 7 months old! We did the same tests, and everything. She as on an antibiotic for 1 year, and then had to do the tests all over again! It was NOT fun! hopefully she doesnt have to do the antibiotics?? Good luck!
