Big Girl Bed

After using the pack n' play in Las Vegas and deciding it was too small Rachel, we decided that it seemed like a good time to switch to a big girl bed (especially since we'll be traveling more in July & August). If you didn't know already, Brandon is making Rachel a daybed (he loves woodworking and when it's done it will look something like this). For now, we have a twin mattress on the floor, which makes me feel better anyway until she gets used to it.

I thought it would be pretty dramatic/traumatic, but so far so good. She really loves it and has been using it for about 2 weeks. We told her that anytime she was ready to wake up, she should yell, "MOM, DAD!" rather than get out of bed. That was pretty much the only rule - stay in bed - and she does that most of the time (every once in awhile, she'll come out on her own after nap if she can hear that someone is nearby). We have kept to the same routine - reading books and then singing some songs and then saying night-night. Really, no crazy stories (an occasionally strange sleeping position, but that's to be expected.) Oh yeah, and the upgrade meant moving her into another room too, since the nursery will stay in the same room, so we're in the process of decorating it for her.

My little baby is getting so big!

Oh my gosh! I can't believe it. My kids are still rockin the crib and will be till they leave for college. Way to go, Rachel! And cute sheets, by the way.

Yay Rachel! We've started looking into that for Calder. We probably won't switch until September or October. When did she get a pillow? Was that part of the big girl bed or did she have one in her crib?

Oh and I love the haircut, so cute.
