My entire family came down and stayed at our house for Thanksgiving and I had way too much fun to take any pictures! I hosted and put on Thanksgiving dinner and it turned out pretty good I thought. When I think about the food items, it really shouldn't be that hard, but it's always stressful for some reason (cue two month old to take 40 minute naps all day long - perfect timing). My family went and hiked the ASU "A" with Rachel and they had a great time.
Black Friday (officially started Thursday) was a huge success and Brandon even caught the black Friday bug. He camped out at Target starting at 6p with my brother so that they could get a big screen tv for $300. They store opened at 4p, but family members were also running to Walmart around midnight to help us get Rachel's Christmas gift on sale. Cindy and I stayed home with the nursing babies and missed out on the action. I think everyone had a lot of fun and was just happy to be together.
My family had to leave a day early because of a giant snow storm in Utah that they didn't want to drive through, but I was glad they all made it home safely.
One other thing I want to remember about this weekend, is how excited Rachel was to have Uncle Cader (age 16) sleep in her room with her. She LOVES him and talked about it for WEEKS before.

p.s. Moms, I'm looking for some advice if you have any experience. Rachel has her hands in her mouth ALL.the.time. and it drives me absolutely crazy (the picture above just reminded me). She also bites her fingernails and she's only 2. Where'd she even learn that? (eh hem ... me ... but that's beside the point and I'm trying to "quit") I have tried reasoning and bribes and punishments, but it's so hard to be consistent since she is doing it all day - I can't even tell you how many times I tell her to take her hands out her mouth daily. Gross, I know!

Ella started biting her nails too (and surprise, surprise, I do it too) ugh! I have not done much about it other than getting after her every time she has her hands in her mouth BUT I did read a good article about what to do with a child who picks their nose that relates. The article recommended explaining that picking your nose is yucky and taking the child to wash their hands every time after they get caught doing it. Apparently, your child is supposed to get sick of washing their hands so frequently, they cease the nose picking. I figure the same thing could be applied to hands going in the mouth. I would explain that it's yucky and promptly take them to wash their hands. The article also said that kids pick their nose because they need something to do with their hands and suggested giving them a blanket to hold or a toy to play with. Again, I'm sure this would apply to biting nails too. Good luck! Tell me if you figure something out that works!
Also, I didn't realize they had Blue Bell in Arizona! YUMMMMM! I thought it was just a Texas delicacy. Once you start eating Blue Bell, no other ice cream is as good. Their cookie dough ice cream is the absolute best cookie dough ice cream ever made!
Simon can't get over sucking his fingers. If it makes you feel any better...for the last 6 months he has evolved to having one down his pants and one in his mouth...frequently...several times a day. Sometimes we tell him to shake his hands and I remind him to keep his hands clean...following the concept of telling children to walk rather than "don't run". I only am consistent about it in public and I talk to him about germs. Rachel is younger though and might not get the concept yet though. I think that there also has to be times when you let them do it...they do it for a reason as a method of comfort. So my pediatrician recommended there be certain times and places when they are allowed to do it. I have also thought of the concept that Katherine has mentioned, but I'm not always in a position to do that. I should carry sanitizer and use that when we aren't by a sink.
I haven't hiked A Mtn. in forever! looks like the weather was great.
Owen also has his fingers in his mouth all the time! He's been doing it for a while now. I notice it more when he's concentrating on something, or nervous. I just keep reminding him to take his hands out of his mouth. I don't know what else to do! I just keep hoping it's a phase and that he'll grow out of it. Wish I had advice for you!
