August Catch Up

Rachel found a best friend in her kindergarten class, and her name is Holly.  In fact, they are such good friends that they tell people they are sisters (or so she tells me).  One day, I went to pick Rachel up, and her and Holly came around the corner holding hands!  I tracked down Holly's mom after school and introduced myself.  And get this - Holly's family just moved into our same neighborhood (Lehi Crossing), so Rachel and Holly will be in the same ward.  Hope they like each other for a long time!!

So far school has gone great for our little kindergartener!  Her teacher is a great fit for Rachel, and they are really on the ball.  I love the schedule/routine that it has provided for us, and I love that she is keeping busy and learning!

However, I do not love what she is learning in the pick up line from the other students while she waits for me to get to the front of the car line (which the car line/kiss & go is a broken system, but that's another post for another day) - like how another Kindergartener told her all about her boyfriend and talks about him daily to Rachel.  For the last two school days on the way home, we've had to have conversations about dating rules in our family (we don't go on dates with boys until we are 16, and please wait to have a boyfriend until college, blah blah blah, this will work, right?).  Rachel said about all this, "I wonder who I am going to pick to be my boyfriend ... hmmm... there's just so many boys to choose from."  Oh dear.  She also has mentioned that certain boys are "cute", and I don't know if she's using it as just a totally innocent descriptive quality (like nice, kind, etc.) or if she's really meaning that she thinks they are cute.  Yikes!  Please stop growing and just stop talking to other children.  Please.  Sometimes I wish she's just keep to herself, but she is too adventurous and a total social butterfly.

Oh yeah, and I joined the PTA (called PTO here), and I volunteered to be the Kindergarten PTO representative.  Go me!  All it means is that I am getting older and even more uncool.  Fine!  Go, PTO, GO!

Andrew is not very fond of Rachel going to school each day, but it has been fun to see him and Kendall become better friends.  And he gets to have playdates occasionally with nursery friends like Maddox & Kaehl.  Andrew and "Mammux" are good friends, about the same size, and they play very well together.  So fun to watch him be his own little person, and not get bossed around all the time by big sister.  I have really enjoyed our daytime conversations with his leading the discussions - he really cracks me up!

Kendall got 2 more teeth this month (8 total) and she now prefers big people food over baby food.  I have also been working on her disdain for bows and am fighting her when she takes it off (some days) - it is exhausting.  One week, I kept telling her that it was "Bow Camp" and that she needed to keep it on.  It only lasted 3-4 days, and then I got too tired of trying.  Kendall totally dominated me at Bow Camp!

She is standing up like a champ now and learned to clap her hands - MY FAVORITE milestone!!  I love it when she claps her hands to let us know she's happy or excited about something.

Kendall is very good, and mild mannered ... unless she gets hurt ... watch out, because she's a huge wimp!  She bawls if she gets hurt, even if it's just a little bonk.  Let the girl drama begin.

The weekend of August 23-25, our little family took a vacation from life and spent the weekend at a hotel in Scottsdale with the kids.  We swam and watched movies while we cranked the air conditioner at the hotel full blast.  YES!  I feel like the kids are still a little young to entertain themselves completely in a hotel room, and it provides some challenges with a young baby, but we really enjoyed the weekend getaway and our time at the hotel.

Our silly Kindergartener who is just growing up way too fast!

Andrew's playdate with Maddox - good buddies!

This was a fun post! Go you-PTO Mom!! And I know about broken systems in the line at school, ours is broken too. And I must say that Lucy refuses to wear bows too and I feel your pain. And Rachel's comments about boyfriends made me laugh so hard. I read them to Jonathan and he laughed too!
