Potty Training - take 3

For the last 9 months, I have had every reason in the world to not to potty train Kendall - new job, moving, trips, holidays, etc.

Then I got the stomach bug one Saturday morning in January and I quarantined myself to my bedroom in an attempt to keep it from spreading.  Brandon took care of everything with the kids - if a mom has to get sick, it might as well be on a Saturday.  It was a small price to pay for an awesome weekend and a complete break from day-to-day life!!  I am serious.  I watched movies, caught up on the blog, slept, read, and threw up quite a few times, but like I said - a small price to pay.

On Sunday, I felt much better, but didn't want to get anyone at church sick, so I opted to stay home and Brandon took all the kids to church - bless his sweet heart.  For 3 hours I had the house all to myself (one of my favorite things) and then he also took them to family dinner and I stayed home (again, so awesome).  I may have milked it just a little bit, but no one else got it, so I'm calling it a huge success!  I felt rejuvenated and ready to conquer the world!

When I woke up on Monday morning with a renewed sense of energy and determination, I decided it would be a good week to potty train Kendall.  We cleared our schedule, pulled out the panties that I had been hiding because she kept asking to wear them, and stopped by the store for lots of juice and potty treats and poo poo prizes.  Andrew was excited too when he saw all the treats I bought, and he was very encouraging and helpful since he also got a treat every time she went!

Kendall loved the panties and had a great time running to the toilet and getting stickers and treats!!  After following her around and playing with her for every second of the first day, she finally said, "Mom, why you keep following me?"

The first day, she had 4 pee pee accidents, which kind of surprised me.  She had lots of successes too, but she did not have clear cues for needing to go pee like the other kids did.  I was catching her mid-accident, but couldn't figure out what she'd do before she'd pee.  She also ran to the toilet about 50 times for every.single.tute.  What a little lady!  Ugh!  Potty training is enough to send a mother to the loony bin, I tell ya.  The second or third day (it's all a blur now), she did better with potty and only had one pee accident; however, I knew she need to go #2 but was dancing around trying not to go all day long.  She finally pooped at 4:30p in the afternoon and I was all sorts of relieved!

Overall, she's been amazing at the potty training!  She hasn't ever had an accident at a store or in the car - thank you for that.  She occasionally will get lazy while playing and pee in her pants, but always feels badly about it.  I pretty well left her to her own devices half way through day 4, which was sooner than the other kids it seems.  I am so glad to have it done and am so proud of her for doing so well!

Update:  After a few weeks of basically dry pull ups at night, she has asked her wear panties to bed and has kept them dry for three nights in a row!  And that is with zero effort on our part.  Wow!  You go, girl!
Update #2:  Last night she wet the bed, so we shall see.

we painted toes and she even painted mine :)

Moments

- Andrew lost his first tooth on January 4, 2016, age 5.
- After an entire FHE lesson on David & Goliath, Brandon asked Andrew a question about David and Andrew responded, "Who's David?"
- Andrew had a pajama day at school for "P" week and you would have thought it was equivalent to Christmas or his birthday.  He was counting down for weeks before and talked about it all the time.  There was some confusion about which day it was, and Andrew had me text the teacher to make sure we had it all straight.
- I spent a lot of time at the dentist in December, and so I think Kendall thinks that is a major responsibility of being a mother.  In her personal and family prayers, she blessed me at the dentist for weeks after my last appointment.
- Cade brought a girl to Sunday dinner and I told Rachel to ask Morgan what she wants to know about Cade.  Rachel's response was, "I don't know much about Cade - I just know he's my uncle and my best friend."  It was a perfect response!
- Andrew wanted to make sure that we weren't going to visit Arizona around Christmas, because he does not want to miss the Grandma sleepover.  It is always a highlight of the year!
- On more than a couple occasions this year, Rachel and her friend, Drew, from school have coordinated their outfits so that they wear their exact same BYU jerseys on the same day.  Ha!

Christmastime

Christmas was MAGICAL!  On Christmas Eve around 11pm, it started snowing the most beautiful, fluffy snow and when we all woke up Christmas morning, there was SO MUCH SNOW!  It was probably 18 inches at least.  This year was the very first year having Christmas morning in our house.  We have always spent the morning in Utah, but we were always staying with family.  But this year, we were able to sleep in our own beds and open presents under our tree.  Grandma & Grandpa, Nana & Papa and Cade all trekked through the snow to join us at 7am.

CHRISTMAS DAY

Loved this one with Rachel's grouchy face!! Ha! Rachel asked for the rocking panda bear, and we knew she wouldn't allow the little kids to sit on it, so we had to get them one of their own.

Our Christmas Tree with some newly added decorations

Rachel asked Santa for the Lego Friends Grand Hotel lego set.  Andrew asked Santa for the Paw Patroller.  Kendall asked Santa for a pink mermaid tail.  They all got what they wished for, so I guess they were good this year (it was a close call for Rachel, but the Santa incentive shaped her right up)!!  Brandon surprised me and got me a mini iPad and a belated 10 year anniversary gift, which was the most beautiful ring to wear on my right hand!  Both of these gifts were surprises!  Brandon got himself a new TV, so everyone had new toys to play with!  It was such a fun and memorable Christmas.

Getting in the Christmas Spirit

- Visit with Santa ... very early in the season, we were at Traverse Mountain outlets and had an impromptu visit with Santa since there was practically no one in line.  He was very sweet and took lots of time with the kids.  They wrote letters, then visited with Santa and he spent a long time answering all their questions about the reindeer and the North Pole.  It was a very sweet and magical visit.  If only we could have snapped a picture, but it wasn't allowed unless you buy theirs for $100 dollars (not really, but it is highway robbery).  Later in the season, I made them go to visit the Riverwoods Santa so we could get our annual picture.  Thankfully there were no last minute changes to what they asked for!

- While shopping at the Peppermint Place for beanie boo's, we ran into Santa who was also shopping there.  He was an adorable Santa and very cute to Kendall!

- Temple lights in SLC ... if I'm being truthful, I think we were a little underwhelmed and it didn't seem like there were as many lights as there usually are.  The best part was randomly running into Grandma Nancy & Grandpa Val in the middle of City Creek!!  We had no idea that they were going to be up there.

- Nutcracker ... Nana and I took Rachel to a performance of the Nutcracker and Rachel really loved it.    And I only fell asleep for a couple minutes.  :)  It was a fun afternoon that ended with a random run-in with Sheena at Menchies.  It was very well timed since the last time I saw Nutcracker was probably when Sheena was performing in it as a little girl.

- Mormon Tabernacle Choir Concert in SLC ... the opera singers were not our cup of tea, but the broadway singer was very good.  In Brandon's words, he said the concert was "not enjoyable".

- Star Wars movie in SLC ... we went out to dinner with Brandon's legal team to Happy Sumo, then went to the weekend premiere of Star Wars: the Force Awakens.  His co-workers made sure that we were first in line, so we were looking like true Star Wars nerds.  The movie was fantastic!

Note to self:  driving up/back to SLC plus parking is kind of a pain at Christmastime ... it would be fun to get a hotel up there and make it a 2-day thing

- Talent Show with the Parker/Thompson family ... Rachel played the piano, Andrew sang Dashing through the Snow (and closed his eyes, so he couldn't see everyone looking at him), Kendall tried to sing Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and Brandon and I did a lip-sync duet with choreography to Aaron Neville & Linda Ronstadt's Don't Know Much.  We wore a tux and wedding dress (to celebrate our 10 year Anniversary and "renew our vows"), Brandon played an electric guitar, and we ended with an awkward makeout session.  Cindy did the Mormon Rap, Kyle did Kyle-isms, Cade did a lip-sync to Santa Baby, and mom and dad did a guitar/sing to Grandma's Feather Bed.

- Christmas Eve visit with the elderly ... Rachel had an idea to visit a rest home (where Grandma Parker used to live) to visit with the people and sing them songs and give them a treat.  We invited the Parker's and the Olsen's and had a great time brightening the resident's day.  Our voices were not the best, but they were grateful and most of them enjoyed the kids giving them hugs.

Rachel made a million Christmas cards and gifts this year - I love that she caught the spirit of giving!

Kendall had a low grade fever at a family party, so she was banished to a bedroom :(
