Rachel tried softball (machine pitch) for the first time this year and Brandon tried coaching! He wasn't too thrilled about the idea, but then they got assigned the Cubs and that helped his excitement level - at least momentarily. Brandon spent 1-2 evenings a week with these girls and Saturday mornings for practice. This cut into his precious backyard project time, so the pergola took longer than he would have liked. The girls learned a lot about the game and made a lot of improvements throughout the season. Rachel had friends on the team from school (Milli, Miah, Maizy, Olivia) and they were a great group of girls and very enthusiastic.
Andrew was on the Blue Jays, and his biggest hesitation about coach pitch baseball was that he might be on the Cardinals team and that his family wouldn't cheer for him. :) Avery's dad coached his team (Brandon helped out quite a bit there too, which ate into even more evenings), and he also knew Harper, Sawyer, Adam, Tanner, Ashton & Owen from church or school. Andrew said that baseball isn't his favorite - he says it is too tiring. When I asked him to describe what he meant, I think he meant it was too boring - he didn't like all the sitting around waiting to hit, waiting for the ball to come to him, etc. His favorite part of the season was trying to be last in the hitting line up so that he could run around all the bases and feel like he hit a home run.
