Panic is setting in - today is the last day of school for this sassy, sweet girl! I am piddling around trying to get things done, but with summer looming just minutes away, I am not being very efficient with my last day of school.
What I want to remember about Rachel in first grade:
- although I took her school shopping and we picked out some cute outfits, she seemed to wear the same outfits every week - she wore her two maxi skirts at least once a week, sometimes twice if I wasn't in the mood to battle and she hated wearing pants (good thing we live in the desert!) ... I once dropped her off at a play date and her friend said, "Do you wear that skirt everyday?" - my thoughts exactly
- she had the best teacher with a good group of girlfriends with not much drama (minus Sophia who gave her and Holly a little bit of trouble at the end of the year)
- her class award was "sweetie pie" and Ms. Margerum had nothing but wonderful things to say about her and she thrived both academically and socially at school
- she is a natural leader in her classroom and a good example and tries so hard to be good at school
- at home, she has good weeks and bad weeks (early onset PMS) and we are constantly saying to her, "please treat your family like you treat your friends"
- she is so polite and outstanding with adults (a total kiss up, and it will get her far!)
- I have heard "I hate you, Mom!" more times than I'd like to admit (or my personal favorite, "I want to sell you at a garage sale, Mom!"), but I think I have received more thank you/love notes from her than I have heard the nasty phrases
- she is becoming a somewhat pickier eater as she gets older
- reading comes naturally and easily to her
- sadly, she did not reach her goal of becoming a math master, but we will continue to work with her over the summer (less than half of her class were math masters - 50 addition problems in 3 minutes, then 50 subtraction problems in 3 minutes); I really pushed her the last two months of school hoping she would get it, but the progress was slow and we fought tooth and nail about it after school
What Rachel wants to remember about first grade:
- Favorite food: egg sandwich (fried egg between two pieces of toast)
- What do you want to be when you grow up? Sea World Animal Trainer
- Best part of 1st grade: Ms. Margerum
- Best friends: Holly, Sophia, Kaylee, Savannah
- Favorite book series: Boxcar Children & Junie B. Jones
- Favorite colors: purple, green, blue & red
